Harold’s Lighting History – A video!

Harold’s Lighting has been providing quality lighting services for the people of the Greater Seattle area for 60 years! Our dedication to customer satisfaction and customer service is what sets us apart from other lighting stores and lighting repair shops.

Amidst the Great Depression, Harvey Hansen began selling and manufacturing lamp shades. He went up and down the West Coast selling his products and eventually learned he could make a living by opening up a shop in Seattle. Check out the video below for more details about how this family owned lighting shop has stuck around for so long:

Recessed Downlighting Housing Info

Once you’ve figured out where you want your recessed downlights to be (if you need help with that, check out this post» ), now you’ve got to figure out what you need in order to install these fixtures.

Most recessed lighting fixtures require you to purchase a few different pieces.  Depending on what type of recessed lighting you choose to go with, most come with a few basic components. The most important, being the housing.

RECESSED LIGHT FIXTURE HOUSING

The housing of the light fixture includes the main housing (sometimes called “Can” or “Rough-In”, a mounting frame (attaches everything to the ceiling),  mounting bars, lighting trim (or sometimes called finishing), the trim and a trim ring, optics, and the actual bulb (aka lamp).

This image illustrates these main recessed light fixture components:

Happy Thanksgiving From Harold’s Lighting

All of us from Harold’s Lighting wish you a very happy Thanksgiving! We hope you’re able to enjoy time with family and friends and take time to think about what you’re grateful for.

If you’re hosting the party this year, don’t forget about your dining room lighting options! If you rarely use your dimmer, now is the time to use it! Depending on how large the space is, use layers of lighting styles to achieve a warm and inviting atmosphere. Now is not the time to blast your guests with tons of light. Set your fixtures to provide enough light for you to safely serve and eat food, but not much more. Lower levels of light are typically more flattering and create a warmer and cozy feel.

Thanksgiving is one of the most dangerous holidays of the year, in terms of fire safety. Keep an eye on your oven or turkey fryer and keep a fire extinguisher on hand!

We’re thankful to have been providing the Seattle area with excellent lighting products and services since 1957!

Harold’s Lighting has been blest to be providing lighting options and solutions to the great people of the Seattle area since 1957. Tradition is something that runs deep in our culture.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month!

“Courage doesn’t always roar. Sometimes courage is the little voice at the end of the day that says I’ll try again tomorrow” – Mary Anne Radmacher

According to the experts at NationalBreastCancer.org, 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. This disease has, in some way or another, effected everyone in the United States. No one should face breast cancer alone, and that is the inspiration behind Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The goal of spotlighting this issue in October is to shed light on the disease and raise awareness.

NationalBreastCancer.org has laid out a few ways you can help:

Harold’s Lighting wants to support bringing more attention to Breast Cancer. Early detection is important, and can even help increase the chances of survival. We encourage everyone to get a yearly mamogram (at the least) and to live healthily.

Capture Fall with Stained Glass

As the leaves are starting to change and fall, we are reminded of the classic elegance that stained glass can bring to any room. As the sun starts to set a little earlier think about brightening up your space with a beautiful stained glass lamp or stained glass pendant!

Stained glass is truly an art form. Each individual piece is hand selected and soldered into place carefully by the artist. Stained glass lamp shades have been a classic staple in many homes and they can help set a comfortable and cozy atmosphere. These are not a one-size-fits-all option, but can be appropriately installed in just about any room in a home.

Stained glass light fixtures give off a warm glow, and can be as much of a focal point in a room as a piece of art or sculpture would be. These fixtures are made with care, and are made to last both physically and aesthetically.

Though typically thought of as fixtures in a home office, billiard room, or living room, many people have been able to incorporate stained glass lighting in bedrooms, kitchens and even bathrooms!

Harold’s Lighting stores in Seattle and Bellevue carry one of the largest selections of stained glass lighting in Washington state! We have classic Tiffany lamps, Tiffany pendants, Tiffany chandeliers and more! Come on by and pick up a piece of art to add to one of your rooms today!
